Authors Do You Squidoo?
by Marlive Harris, TheGRITS.com

When I visited Squidoo.com’s homepage recently and saw in large letters the question –What should the world know about you? — I immediately thought about all the messages I’ve received, and continue to receive, from authors asking about best places to promote their books online. This homepage goes on to say, “Welcome to the world’s easiest way to make a page online. Share your interests, get found, and even earn money (for you or for charity). For free, of course.” Listen, with introductory information like that, I’m sure you understand why I titled this post, “Authors do you Squidoo?”
Squidoo is a network of single-page blogs called lenses that highlights a person’s point of view on a variety of topics they’re passionate about. So how can Squidoo benefit authors? Authors can join Squidoo for free and create lenses about their books. Nonfiction writers can create lenses on all the topics covered in their books which is an excellent way for them to build their brand and be recognized as a thought-leader in their field.

Users who create lenses are called Lensmasters. So a typical author’s lens will be about their book and point directly to their YouTube book trailer, Flickr photos of book events and signings, interviews and live webcasts, recommended links, blogs and book purchasing information. Squidoo has sweetened the deal more by offering Lensmasters a chance to earn money from all lenses created and promoted via their network. So if you’ve been looking for some free places to market and promote your book online, I think Squidoo is the place to be!
